You do not need a complicated ten-step routine to begin caring for your skin. A consistent routine with a few suitable basics is often easier to maintain—and easier on your budget.
Start with three basics
1. Gentle cleanser
Choose a cleanser that leaves your skin comfortable rather than tight. If your skin feels irritated after washing, consider a gentler formula.
2. Moisturiser
A moisturiser helps support the skin barrier. A lighter texture may feel comfortable in humid weather, while drier skin may prefer a richer cream. Choose based on your skin’s needs, not a trend.
3. Sunscreen in the morning
Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen labelled SPF 30 or higher and follow its directions. Reapply as directed, especially when outdoors, sweating or swimming.
A simple daily routine
- Morning: cleanse if needed, moisturise, apply sunscreen.
- Evening: remove makeup and sunscreen, cleanse gently, moisturise.
What about serums and exfoliants?
They are optional. Introduce one new product at a time and follow its instructions. Avoid adding several strong active ingredients at once, especially if your skin is sensitive.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Buying products just because they are trending.
- Scrubbing or washing too often.
- Expecting overnight results.
- Ignoring persistent burning or irritation.
If you have a persistent skin concern, painful acne or a reaction that does not settle, consult a qualified dermatologist. This is general information, not a diagnosis.
